Reflection Deepsky
Steel and modular structure for a cliff-top resort — cantilevered cabins terraced down the slope on stilts, with the rock left as it was found.
This is an advanced engineering response to the challenge of putting a modern hospitality facility on difficult rocky cliff topography. The structural design for Reflection Deepsky pairs the strength of steel sections with modular construction, producing cantilevered cabins that are safe without damaging the natural contour of the cliff.
The steep site is answered with a modular terracing concept that distributes the room pods across several levels of elevation, connected to the lobby facilities and an observation tower above. A stilt structure at the lower levels bridges the extreme change in elevation while cutting back the excavation work the cliff would otherwise need.
High-capacity pile substructure and an integrated steel superstructure were modelled comprehensively to verify base shear capacity and lateral deflection. Working through 3D structural computation, the rebar volumes, steel connection details and slab reinforcement could all be projected transparently — a resort structure that is bold, efficient and holds its integrity.
